Aviator sunglasses Print E-mail
Aviators are one of the oldest
models of sunglasses, yet they are one of the most popular sunglasses.
Aviators are often considered as classics among sunglasses. Aviator
sunglasses are characterized due to their own distinct oval shaped
lenses. These lenses narrow towards the nose bridge. Aviator sunglasses
were actually designed for military usage in the year 1936. The humble
aviator sunglasses proved to be one of the most useful gears for armies
during the Second World War. Since then, the aviator sunglasses have
underwent a lot of changes so that they are in their present form.
Aviator sunglasses are today sported by armed forces or by other
aficionados of the armed forces.
Today, the aviator sunglasses come with options such as gradient lenses
and photo-chromatic lenses so that they are more useful than the
earlier aviator sunglasses. The advantage with aviator sunglasses is
that they are androgynous, which means that they suit wearers of both
genders. Usually black and brown are the preferred colors for lenses
but other colors such as blue, green, violet and gray are also liked by
the people. The frames come in different varieties. The gold plated
frames are the most favorable frame as they are always in demand. The
frames, being lightweight, do not add to the overall weight. Plastic
frames are cheap yet dynamic. Aviators may have one or even two bridges
over the nose region to connect the two lenses. Aviator sunglasses have
lenses made of glass or polycarbonate plastic. Though plastic is light
weight, glass is preferred due to its scratch resistant property. These
lenses block the sunrays and even UV rays from entering the cornea and
damaging it.
Taking a look at the modern usage of aviator sunglasses, it is really
difficult to judge that they were actually designed for the military.
Aviator sunglasses are the best for blocking the sunlight on golf
courses, summer picnics and beaches. A good pair of aviators does not
create optical distortions. They actually provide healthy protection to
the eyes from bright sunlight. Aviator sunglasses usually have a high
cost but the exact price depends on the manufacturing brand. Due to the
presence of various brands such as Oakley, Dior, Ray Ban, etc. people
have a lot of choices. Aviators began as early as in 1936 but slowly
underwent technological advancements such as polarized technology. Ever
since, aviator sunglasses were made available to the public in 1937,
they have enjoyed a roller coaster rise to popularity, something which
aviators enjoy to this day.
