It is always difficult deciding what are going to be the hottest slot cars for Christmas. The manufacturers are always bringing out new and innovative slot car sets to review. And 2011 was no exception. And in some respects it has been an exceptionally good year.
The hobby of slot car racing is alive and well, and appears to prospering with the manufacturers improving both the quality and choice of their sets. After a number of years of being in the “wilderness” the hobby of slot cars appears to be returning. However, I do not expect it to ever return to the popularity of its former glory days. There are too many other distractions now.
There were some great new releases from Life Like slot cars, with their ATV Off Road Racing Set and the High Iron Burnin’ Rubber Train And Slot Car Racing Set.  AFX introduced a great innovation in the Tri-Power pack with settings for beginners, intermediate and expert. They added it to all their available slot car sets.
Carrera Slot Cars seems to have the inside track with slot car sets based on movie characters. This year they released a range of slot car sets based on the movie Cars 2. They also had one of their old favorites selling faster than ever.
